C. Randal (Randy) Mullett is vice president, government relations and public affairs, for Con-way Inc., a $4.3 billion freight transportation and logistics services company headquartered in San Mateo, Calif.
As the company’s senior policy manager and executive representative in Washington, D.C., Mr. Mullett is responsible for all government relations and public affairs activities for Con-way and its subsidiaries at the federal, state and local levels. He oversees the company’s relationships with various state and national trade associations and serves as Con-way’s lead advocate on homeland security, transportation policy and other legislative and regulatory issues important to the enterprise and its employees. He also heads up the company’s formalized program with respect to adoption of sustainable business practices across the enterprise and in freight transportation.
Mr. Mullett was named director of government relations in 2002, was promoted to vice president in January 2005, and assumed additional public affairs responsibilities in January 2008. He previously served for 13 years as a service center manager for Con-Way Southern Express, one of Con-way’s regional less-than-truckload carriers. In August 2007, Con-way combined its three regional operating units into one organization.
Prior to joining Con-way, Mr. Mullett spent 13 years with Roadway Express, where he held a variety of positions with increasing responsibilities.
With relevant experience in trucking business operations as well as issues and advocacy management, Mr. Mullett is a frequent speaker at legislative commission, homeland security and transportation policy development conferences and is a respected voice within the homeland security, freight transportation and supply chain management communities. He serves on the board of directors of the National Association of Manufacturers, The American Trucking Associations, and the American Benefits Council. He also serves on the board of Fueling CA, a California-based advocacy organization promoting realistic and effective fuel distribution and management policies.
A native of Berryville, Va., Mr. Mullet holds a bachelor’s degree from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.V., and an MBA from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Mr. Mullett is based in Washington, D.C.
