Mr. Michael D. Luke is the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) Mortuary Affairs Officer and Joint Logistics planner for the Logistics and Engineering Directorate. Mike served for 21 years in the US Air Force primarily in logistics planning and operations. Mike holds a Master’s Degree in Business Organizational Management from La Vern University, CA and is pursuing a second Masters in Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama. He is also a trained DOD Mortuary Affairs Officer. He was a member of the Pandemic Influenza Steering Committee for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and he is a contributing author to the forthcoming book “Death in Large Numbers: The Science, Policy, and Management of Mass Fatality Events”, on behalf of Dr. Elin Gursky and Dr. Marcella Farinelli Fierro. Mike helped establish the Fatality Management Interagency Steering Committee, an ad hoc group of subject matter experts which collaborate on fatality management issues. The group consists of representatives from the National Association of Medical Examiners, National Association of Funeral Directors, DMORT, DTRA, NTSB, DOD Joint Mortuary Affairs Center, FL Emergency Mortuary Response System, the CA FM Steering Committee, NV - Clark County Coroner, NYC - Office of Chief Medical Examiner and others. Mikes primary duties in his current position, is to liaison in fatality management issues with local, state and Federal colleagues, on how the DOD mortuary system will interface with their civilian counterparts during a Defense Support to Civilian Authorities (DSCA) operations. Additionally, he is responsible to the Joint Staff and DOD to ensure inclusion of fatality management planning for US specific operational and concept plans. Mike is an Adjunct Professor at Colorado Christian University and a certified Master Knowledge Manager.
