Dr. Austin is the Manager for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Countermeasures Programs and Initiatives in the Boeing Research & Technology
Homeland Security organization across The Boeing Company. He has eighteen years of experience leading and supporting advanced research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) aerospace and defense programs and projects with DHS, USAF, DTRA, DARPA and NASA customers. He has designed and developed operational flight hardware for military and commercial aircraft at Boeing (1997 to present) and McDonnell Douglas (1992-1997). Since 2001 he has developed expertise working with government, industry and academia developing risk analyses toolsets of asymmetric terrorist threats; establishing public-private partnerships; and designing multilayered CBRNE countermeasures systems and technologies, concepts of operations for adaptive adversary tactics, techniques and procedures into advanced integrated system security solutions to protect critical infrastructure under DHS and DoD programs. He has past expertise in RDT&E of systems engineering, assessment and integration of disruptive technologies, wind tunnel testing and flight vehicle testing of aerodynamics and propulsion systems and technologies in advanced systems. Dr. Austin earned his B.S. (1986), M.S. (1987), and Ph.D. (1992) all in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Southern California.
